Drone Delivery
Well, someone among my professional circle asked me - where my family gets its veggies from. I mentioned that its air dropped. There was silence for a few moments. Probably he was digesting and interpreting the information. He mentioned if it is viable in Navi Mumbai. I mentioned "Yes, pretty much". India has tech expertise and immense capability in drones and its application for unimaginable tasks and operations.
After a few moments, the next query that came to his mind is - Is commerical usage of drones permitted in NM? Most likely his brain made some neural connections, he ran few queries in his mindspace and memcache, and related it to Amazon drone deliveries in Cali, US. He gave away that Amazon package drop in California was the basis for this question and if our License Raaj and bureaucratic structure has opened so much. I could relate to the various thoughts that were striking, as he is atleast a decade more aged than me, hence the generational gap.​
I gave a picture of reality and affirmed, "yeah things have changed now, pretty much for good".
The next short query from our curious crow was, if the provider of this service is Amazon Fresh, that I confirmed.

Now the next question, probably the most intelligent and relevant was, "Are drone deliveries (Air Drops) economically viable in Navi Mumbai?"
My answer to it was, why not...India is proud of its Jagaad mindset, we do great things at 1/10th of the cost and our chest is all pumped up about this value creation, be it space mission, geo tagging, mapping services and what not. And as per the demand pipeline, we almost always have the capability to scale this 10X. With the volume play that we have (150 cr humans or consumers) the cost per delivery goes way down South.
He was pretty much convinced with my replies.
However, I was kind of drained off by this time and looking my way out. So before he could send the next query to his memcache, I blew the lid off this made up story.

I mentioned that I still bring the veggies and deli fruitson my bike over the weekends. And refill the stock next weekend without a smart IoT enable fridge or any integrated gadgetry.
